Benefits of Rhyming
What's so important about rhyming?  Well, hearing rhyming words help to build pre-reading skills that assist children decode words in context.

Learning word families that sound the same help children interpret words in text.  For example, if a child knows the word bat and that child understands word families, they will likely be able to figure out words such as cat, hat, sat, mat and so on.  Some of the fun situations presented in the silly rhymes provide children with added ability to appreciate and begin to recognize humor, as well.

In KiddiVersity's, Cappy The Caterpillar storybook line, every single one of our storybooks rhyme for this mentioned reason.  While both your baby and you are having fun through the sing song movement of rhyming words, your baby is also learning about pronunciation, identification and appearance of the word.  While reading, be sure to put emphasis on the rhyming words, in so doing, you are helping your baby identify the pair that sound the same!
